Chris's Blog

Many words have been used to describe me over the years, some good most bad. Here you will just find my words and mostly I'm pretty nice.

What a xmas…

Well this christmas never went as planned thats for sure. Nothing like waking up christmas morning and finding that your still in hospital. So the story well after winding down at work for the year i partied up last friday for our work xmas party and over indulged I guess you could say. This lead to a very seedy saturday where i looked for lots of sleep and no food to recover.

Sunday was much like any other sunday slept in, hit the gym and just did nothing ready for the last 2 days of work before breaking till the new year. I awake Monday around 4-5 feeling fairly crook which only got worse as the day progressed. This lead me to a visit to the hospital and after a 3 hour visit being sent home with pain killers.

So with the pain still driving me crazy I headed to bed and downed my pain killers. Waking hours later shacking like a madman it was clear I need to get my ass back to the hospital. A new doctor (this ones seemed to know what he was on about) I am diagnosed with apendicitis and tucked into my emergency bed for the night to await a surgical visit in the morning.

Now trying to sleep in a tiny emergency bed for 8 hours is never going to be fun. Add to that some nasty stomach pain and the feeling of wanting to spew everywhere then you might grasp just how little sleep I managed to get myself.

After yet a third doctors opinion and a visit from a surgeon I was set for my operation that evening if only I could wait out the day. By now I’d had very little sleep for 2 days and not eaten for almost as long so just wanted the damn things out.

Eventually my turn for the surgeons to play came (2 hours late might I add) and for what seems like seconds I’m asleep and then awake again. Now coming off the drugs and waking up is not something I enjoy especially when everytime you start to drift off you also feel like your going to stop breathing.

Back to the ward i go hoping to wake up on christmas eve feeling good so that I can travel home to be with the family on xmas day. Apart from the 30 min checking on me I was doing alright fairly sore but well medicated so off to sleep I went. Waking a couple of hours later to blood all over me sure wasn’t what i had planned.

For the next 8 hours the nurses tried as they might to stop my belly button from bleeding (the surgeon used keyhole surgery) and after this 8 hour marathon of me getting barely any sleep the surgeon arrives to stop it all in 10 min. Note when someone says stick pressure on a wound pay attention as I needed the pressure applied directly inside my belly button and not just on my belly.

The rest of the day saw me dosed with pain killers and moving very little as my stomach was rather sore after the nights events. I did finally manage to get some food into me by now which was nice and I must say for hospital food it wasn’t so bad. Especially as xmas lunch even came with a beer.

I survived xmas eve night fairly well (consider the night before) and after finding a doc to see me after xmas lunch I was finally free and destined for a 3 hour drive to the family where i hoped to finally be able to get a decent night sleep. The 3 hour drive home wasn’t too bad providing I avoided the bumps and didn’t have to get in and out of the ute very eften.

Hopefully new years will be a little more interesting for me as right now I’m still layed up unable to move as everything seems to make my stomach feel like its being stabbed with pins. Atleast the cricket is interesting…..
